Bruno Guimarães is reportedly set to sign a new long-term contract at St. James’ Park. Even though he is already understood to be Newcastle’s highest-earning player with a weekly salary of £120,000, the Brazilian midfielder would receive improved terms on his current deal, which expires in 2026, ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, negotiations are well underway to make Guimarães the highest-paid player in club history with a £200,000-a-week salary. Not only do they believe he deserves a raise after helping them secure Champions League football next season, but also to avoid a potential departure.

Newcastle would make Guimarães their highest-paid player ever

The Brazilian star admitted he held talks with Real Madrid last summer but has repeatedly said he wants to stay at Newcastle. “It is true that Real Madrid are the best team in the world. It was nice, but it was just a conversation, nothing more,” he said. “I feel at home here. It’s the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. I am living my dream here and hope to become a legend.”

Magpies manager Eddie Howe didn’t give details on Bruno’s new contract when asked about it last week. However, he stressed the importance of protecting the club’s assets and rewarding player performances. Barcelona and Liverpool have also been linked with the 25-year-old, but it looks like he will stay at St. James’ Park.
