In a statement released on Wednesday, Brighton Football Club officially announced the arrival of young Brazilian striker João Pedro. The transfer had been already been confirmed a few weeks ago, but the club wanted to formally present its new signing to its supporters.

Pedro comes from Championship side Watford, where he has played since 2020. The Seagulls forked out €34 million to get the Flamengo product, who became the club’s record signing. “We are delighted to welcome João Pedro to our team. He is a talented player and we are convinced that he will bring a lot to our attack. His arrival strengthens our squad for the coming season, where we will play our first European tournament,” Vrighton Technical director David Weir said.

João Pedro will play European competition with Brighton

Pedro, whose new contract with Brighton runs until 2028, said he’s delighted to join the Premier League outfit and is eager to contribute to the team’s success from now on. Roberto De Zerbi’s men come from a sensational season, which saw them qualify for a European tournament for the first time.

With Alexis Mac Allister gone, the board made sure to make a big move that lets them keep a competitive squad. With a place in the 2023-24 UEFA Europa League, Pedro’s arrival is a testament to their ambition of doing a good job continentally. This season, the Brazilian recorded 11 goals in 35 Championship fixtures.
