Casemiro has worn Nike boots from his professional debut. But it looks like their long-time partnership has come to an end. As the Daily Mail notes, the Brazilian midfielder was seen wearing Adidas boots during Manchester United’s away victory against Aston Villa on Sunday.

His boots at Villa Park were the Adidas Predators, one of the German brand’s most popular boots. Casemiro, however, is not the only world-class player who ended a longstanding association with the American manufacturer.

Nike losing stars, clubs in world soccer

Late in 2023, Nike announced they aim to save $2 billion over the next three years, which resulted in many prominent teams and players move on to other suppliers. Casemiro, for instance, has followed in the footsteps of Manchester United teammate Lisandro Martinez, who changed Nike for Adidas in 2023.

Other world-renowned players who left the American brand in the last year were Harry Kane, Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic and Manuel Akanji.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr has already announced Adidas will produce their kits starting next season, after only one campaign with Nike. The latter is also at risk of losing a longtime partner in Barcelona, as club president Joan Laporta admitted the Catalan side is considering to rescind its deal to land another brand (which is reportedly Puma) or to have an own brand producing its uniforms.
