Following Manchester United"s 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday, Liverpool icon and current Premier League pundit Jamie Carragher called out Casemiro. “I said at half-time that he had to bring Casemiro off," Carragher said on Sky Sports, claiming the Brazilian should leave Europe for Major League Soccer or the Saudi Pro League.

"I think Casemiro, I am being deadly serious, should know himself tonight as an experienced player, that he should only have another three games at the top level, the next two league games and the [FA Cup] final, and thinking I need to go to the MLS or Saudi. I am being deadly serious. His agent or the people around him need to tell him it has to stop."

Casemiro still under contract with Man United

Casemiro, 32, joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and still has two more years under contract at Old Trafford. Even though he was one of the club"s best players last season, his level declined this term as United struggled under Erik ten Hag both on the domestic and continental stage.

“We are watching one of the greats in modern times, played in one of the best midfielders in modern time – him holding [Toni] Kross and [Luka] Modric on either side, who could easily go up against the Barcelona midfield we all know and loved", Carragher added.

“I am nowhere near the level of what that man achieved, but I always remember something when I retired. It was a saying I always remember as a footballer. Leave the football before the football leaves you. The football has left him at the top level. He needs to call it a day at this level of football and move."

The veteran midfielder has been linked with a possible departure from Manchester in the summer as United are expected to make moves to turn things around next year. Casemiro is still one of the first team captains and could end up lifting a trophy if his side beats Manchester City in the FA Cup final, so we"ll have to wait and see.

Remembering Zagallo
