Casemiro once again took a prominent place in Manchester United’s starting eleven after being out for almost three months due to injury. The Brazilian regained the level of what he does best: anticipating opponents to recover the ball and appearing forward to participate in the attack.

Beyond that, he is playing a role that may seem invisible on the field: he is a mentor to Kobbie Mainoo, the 18-year-old academy graduate with whom he shares the double pivot in midfield as the youngster is making his first steps with the first team. The former Real Madrid player, who is about to turn 32, is one of the most experienced players in the Manchester United squad.

Casemiro mentoring Kobbie Mainoo

“Casemiro is a very important player for our game, so we are happy to have him back and Kobbie Mainoo can learn a lot from that partnership,” said coach Erik Ten Hag.

“Casemiro has a lot of experience, and that can even accelerate his development. When they play together, I think they can benefit each other,” the Dutchman added. He also stated that the Brazilian talks a lot with the academy graduate, both on the field, in the locker room, and during training sessions.

Manchester United reached sixth place in the Premier League by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday. In a rather inconsitent season, the team seems to have found its way by recording three consecutive victories.
