São Paulo announced through a statement on their social networks that Rogério Ceni will not continue as the team’s coach. The historic former goalkeeper was in charge of the professional squad since October 2021 and has led 107 games since then.

Under his leadership, the “Tricolor” finished ninth in the Brasileirão 2022 and fell in the final of the Conmebol Sudamericana against Independiente del Valle. However, a weak start to the year cost him the job.

Rogério Ceni is no longer in São Paulo: who can replace him?

Despite the fact that São Paulo won the first two group stage matches in this South American tournament, there was some discomfort due to the early elimination in the Paulista Championship. For this reason, the defeat against Botafogo at the start of the Brazilian league sealed the fate of Ceni.

According to the Brazilian journalist Gabriel Sá, Dorival Júnior would be the one targeted to replace him. The former Flamengo coach has been without a club since Mengão decided to change course last year, despite the fact that Júnior led them to the conquest of the Copa Libertadores 2022.
