CONMEBOL has announced that this year’s Copa America will be delayed by a year in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

UEFA has made an identical decision with the European Championships as a global pandemic has put the sporting calendar on hold.

With all football competitions in Europe and South America now on hold, the football calendar is braced for a period of upheaval and uncertainty.

The Copa America was due to take place in Colombia and Argentina from 12 June until 12 July, but will now be moved to June 2021.

Colombia has already closed its borders in response to COVID-19, while Argentina are also grappling with cases of the virus.

The impracticalities of travel for players, added to the stress on the domestic football calendar means that it is not possible for the tournament to take place in 2020.
