Flamengo coach Jorge Jesus confirmed that he tested positive for the Coronavirus on Monday evening.

The Portuguese had been strongly critical of the decision to go ahead with Campeonato Carioca games on Sunday, with Flamengo playing behind closed doors.

Jesus explained that he has a friend in a critical condition in Portugual due to the virus and on Monday, he confirmed that he had tested positive.

“It’s true that my test came up positive and it’s also true that I feel normal,” the Portuguese coach said on his Instagram account.

“I feel exactly the same today as I felt a month, a year, two, three years ago. I have no symptoms but the test was positive.

“I am going to stay under quarantine. I think that in a week or two, God willing, I’ll be back to normal.”

On Sunday evening, the CBF confirmed that all competitions under their auspices were suspended indefinitely.

The state championships fall under the jurisdiction of regional federations and the Rio Football Federation has also suspended the Campeonato Carioca.
