Former Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo was offered to São Paulo last week by a nearby person.
The information was revealed by Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola. In the message, which reached the ears of club president Leco, the coach said he was extremely motivated to lead the only major club that he hasn’t worked in São Paulo state – he was champion with Palmeiras, Corinthians and Santos. However, Luxemburgo’s desire didn’t cause any excitement within the club’s board, and Leco has ruled out the possibility of appointing the former Seleção manager while he is in charge. Leco’s term ends only in April next year. Luxemburgo has been unemployed since June 5, when he was dismissed by Chinese second division side Tianjin Quanjian. The team invested massively in Chinese football at the start of this season, but were in the relegation zone. Now, however, the club have bounced back and currently sits top of the table and should get access to the Chinese Super League.
Since being fired from Tianjin, Luxemburgo has had some offers, for example, from Coritiba. The invitation came before Paulo Cesar Carpegiani took charge of the clun. On that occasion, Luxemburgo rejected the proposal claiming to have more than €12 million in the accounts after his passage in China. Ricardo Gomes, who replaced Edgardo Bauza, has been the coach of São Paulo for almost four months. His work was much criticized after being eliminated from the Copa do Brasil, by minnows Juventude.
