Levir Culpi, who was without a club since leaving Atlético Mineiro at the end of last year, reached an agreement with Fluminense on Friday and has been announced as the club’s new coach.
Thia is another step in Fluminense’s overhaul after the dismissal of vice-president of football Mário Bittencourt, executive director of football Fernando Simone and coach Eduardo Baptista. The new director Jorge Macedo, was in Curitiba with Levir on Tuesday and also attended the meeting on Thursday with the coach and president Peter Siemsen in Rio. Levir has always been one of Fluminense’s preferred option to replace Eduardo Baptista, but Cuca was the number 1 choice. However, Cuca informed Fluminense on Thursday that he has no interest in continuing the negotiations with them, after being dissatisfied by the fact that Flu are dealing with two candidates at the same time. According to UOL Esporte, there was initially a difference between the requested salary of Levir and what was being offered. Around  €34,000 separated the coach from Fluminense at the beginning of talks, but it was resolved quickly when he became the only real option.
