Fluminense have signed 19-year-old midfielder Mateus from Clube Esportivo Aimoré, who was also in negotiations with Internacional.
A highlight from this year’s Gauchão, the youngster has been a target of Internacional for almost a month, but signed with Fluminense just after the arrival of Jorge Macedo – former executive manager at the Porto Alegre side and now director in Rio de Janeiro. The parties ensure that he did not participate directly in the business, but it was Macedo who gave the final approval to seal the agreement. According to UOL Esporte, the agreement between Fluminense, Aimoré and Mateus should be put on paper next week. The player comes to strengthen Fluminense’s youth team and fill the space left by youngsters promoted to the first team earlier this year. Mateus, who turned professional at Novo Hamburgo, scored a goal against Internacional in the Gauchão fixture. The offer of Inter was a loan until December, and approximately €97,000 for 60% of the economic rights if he is approved in the club’s youth team. Aimoré rejected the offer, and before a new proposal, Fluminense entered the negotiations and reached a deal.
