The main objective of Santos president Modesto Roma Júnior at the moment is to maintain the entire squad for the 2016 season.
And 18-year-old midfield prospect Thiago Maia has stated that the team led by Dorival Júnior is his home and doesn’t want to leave Santos. One of the major revelations of Santos last year, the youngster was the target of both domestic and European clubs before signing a new contract with Santos until 2019.
According to UOL Esporte, Italian side Fiorentina met the player’s agents, but negotiations did not advance and an official proposal wasn’t even presented to the Santos board. He said: “Every player who has proposals, wouldn’t want to leave, because Santos is home to everyone. I’m staying, I feel good and comfortable to play. Here is my home.”
To illustrate the good atmosphere that players and staff have at Santos, Thiago Maia talked about Paulinho, who was signed in January and started the first three rounds of the Paulistão. He added: “Paulinho told me that he adapted in two days, and it wasn’t so in the other clubs he went.”
