Thiago Silva has confirmed his return to Brazil midway through the year, which is why everyone at Fluminense is celebrating. That includes Marcelo, who posted a photo with the defender during their first stint as teammates at the Rio club.

“Together again where it all began. What a pleasure, my brother,” wrote on Instagram the veteran full-back, who played alongside Silva in Rio de Janeiro in 2006.

Their story as teammates continued with the Brazilian national team, where they played together for several years with two World Cup participations, first in Brazil 2014 and then in Russia 2018.

In addition to his post on his personal profile, Fluminense’s official account also showed the former Real Madrid player’s amusing reaction upon learning of Thiago’s decision, with whom he spoke via video call.

At 39 years old, the former captain of Milan, PSG, and Chelsea is preparing to return home after 15 years in Europe. He will have to wait until July when his contract with the Blues expires, as the London side still have three Premier League matches ahead of them.

Marcelo already had a triumphant return to Rio last year, helping Fluminense lift the Carioca Championship and their first ever Libertadores trophy. Now, Silva is looking forward to emulating the full-back in his second stint in Brazil.

Remembering Zagallo
