Uruguayan central defender Diego Lugano had received a standing ovation when he returned to the Morumbi stadium for the farewell Rogério Ceni.
Diego Lugano doesn’t hide his great desire to wear the shirt of São Paulo again, and on Tuesday, agent Juan Figer said the player wants to end his career at the Brazilian club. Lugano is currently at Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño, but Figer believes that a settlement is close, and expects this to be defined at the beginning of January, before the two teams begin preparations for the Copa Libertadores. Figer told Rádio Globo: “I take care of Lugano’s career for many years, and he’s always showed interest in ending his football career playing for São Paulo.”
Figer had already confirmed that São Paulo were studying if it’s feasible to sign Lugano without having to make large investments. The agent says that Lugano has ties with Cerro until August 2016n with an automatic renewal until 2017, but this doesn’t create any barrier for São Paulo in signing him. He added: “São Paulo are analysing presenting a pre-contract, and the player with this pre-contract will have his release from Cerro Porteno. To exit Cerro, the player only has to have a contract that exceeds the amount he currently receive in Cerro Porteño.”
