The South American Football Confederation [CONMEBOL] have suspended Shakhtar and Brazilian midfielder Fred after being caught in doping tests on 27 June, during the Copa América in Chile.
The substance found was diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, but the player, who has denied using any banned substance, can still appeal the decision. Fred has been banned for one year, from 27 June 2015, and will be out until 26 June 2016, the day of the final of Copa América Centenario. Fred may be called up by Dunga to play in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and as the suspension is only for CONMEBOL tournaments, he can normally act for the Ukrainian club, like he has in recent months. Fred took part in the first two matches of Brazil in the 2015 Copa América – in the 2-1 victory over Peru and the 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
