The family was the beginning of all of his 34 tattoos; mother, father, son and sister won a prominent place on the body of the Brazilian star.
Neymar, who’s in Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup, talked to Esporte Espetacular and Globo Esporte about his tattoos, among other things. After Messi suffered a knee injury in September, Neymar took center stage and played a key role in keeping Barcelona at the top of the table in the Champions League and La Liga. Neymar, who will compete with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2015 Ballon d’Or, says that he’s always assumed responsibility from the start of his career.
On his tattoos, he said: “They all have a meaning, all have an importance, a moment that I went through, and the things that made me grow.”
He added: “Always assumed responsibility from an early age. I took responsibility not because Messi was out. We have quality players who will not let the level drop. Playing for Barcelona is a big responsibility. I’ve been living a great season since January and this season has started even better.”
On the 2016 Olympic Games, “We know we have to improve a lot. Hopefully it will be a year of happiness for Brazil. Olympics is coming and we know that it’s a title that Brazil has never won. When it comes to Seleção, we cannot afford to fail to win the Gold medal. Being at home, we have to try to win.”
