Even once the summer transfer window had passed the rumours of Manchester United’s move for Felipe Anderson failed to subside.
The 22 year old Brazilian was subject to a substantial bid from Louis Van Gaal’s men as the transfer window drew to a close.
It has been reported that United had an agreement with the Lazio midfielder on a wage settlement that would see the Brazilian leave the Stadio Olimpico for Old Trafford.
Anderson has had a bright start to the new season with four goals in 10 games for the Rome based club.
However, representatives of the player have moved quickly to refute these claims;
“Contrary to what was reported, Felipe Anderson did not accept an agreement to leave Lazio and join any other club,” said a statement from Felipe Anderson for ESPN FC. “Felipe is right in Lazio and is only focused on do your best for the team. “
Despite United holding a firm interest in the 22 year old, they may have to turn their attentions elsewhere following this latest rebuttal. This, combined with the player still holding a contract for a further years and is a central figure in Stefano Pioli’s plans strengthened by his £55 million release clause.
However, in spite of this latest statement of intent from the club the Italian press still claim the player has a gentlemen’s agreement with the club that allows a transfer if one of the ‘great’ teams in Europe present an appealing proposal.
