Sao Paulo’s recent elimination in the semifinals of the Copa do Brazil has heaped more pressure on manager and ex-Middlesborough midfielder Doriva.
The 3-1 defeat away to Santos last night has turned out to be the final straw for The Saints hierachy who are calling a meeting to discuss their managers future.
The 43 year old who only took over earlier this month has come under increased scrutiny which has only been heightened with this latest loss.
Despite the rumours that he will be dismissed from his post imminently the man himself didn’t seem fazed by the reports he would soon lose his job.
“I am calm, I am confident in my work and I will continue doing my job until the board understand that I have to continue, I feel qualified for this, the result is not expected, but my job is not measured only by results”
However it does appear he is running on borrowed time right now with new president Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva looking at replacing him with current boss of Chinese club Shandong Luneng Cuca.
Doriva played at Middlesborough under Steve McLaren between 2003-2006 where he won the 2004 League Cup in his first full season with the Teeside club.
