São Paulo midfielder Thiago Mendes admitted that the atmosphere inside the team’s dressing room was bad, following the 3-1 defeat to Santos in the Copa do Brasil semifinal first leg.
To qualify to the final of the competition, the Tricolor need to win by a three goal margin at Santos’ Vila Belmiro stadium, but Thiago Mendes believes his team have the strength to overdrive deficit. Another bad news for São Paulo is that Thiago Mendes picked up his third yellow card and will not be available for the second leg. He said: “We have to think about playing football. We know it’s an unfavorable outcome as Santos are with a two goal lead, but we know we have the team to reverse this result. The mood in the locker room? It was bad enough, no one likes to lose in your stadium. Losing to Santos hurt enough, but we have to lift our head. We have an important game against Coritiba and we need to win to enter the top-4.”
