Kenedy scored his first goal for Chelsea and assisted another as Jose Mourinho’s side ran out 4-1 winners over Walsall in the Capital One Cup Third Round.

The 19 year old Brazilian was handed his first start for the club as Mourinho shuffled his pack.

It didn’t take long for the teenager to make his mark providing the cross on 10 minutes for his compatriot Ramires to score the opening goal. Walsall went into the half time break having halved the deficit when James O’Connor scrambled the ball home after Loic Remy had dispatched Chelsea’s second.

However it was to be a memorable night for Kenedy who seemingly put the game beyond the League One sides reach when he latched on to a Reuben Loftus-Cheek through ball to notch his first goal for his new side.

He was visibly overcome with emotion as the young striker sank to his knees as his team-mates celebrated with him.

Despite being taken off with a slight calf injury Kenedy should be proud of his efforts, making his debut and drawing plaudits with his enthusiasm but most importantly quality on the ball. You can see why Mourinho was insistent not to allow his young striker to go out on loan as he has shown he can make a telling impact, especially with Chelsea’s slow start to the season.
