19-year-old winger Kenedy, who left Fluminense last summer, started his first game for the English club on Wednesday against Walsall in the League Cup.
The youngster was expected to be loaned out by Chelsea following his arrival from Brazil, but has been surprisingly given a fair amount of minutes by José Mourinho. On Wednesday night, Kenedy scored one and provided the cross for Ramires’ opening goal in the 4-1 away victory over Walsall which sees the Blues march on to the next round of the League Cup in style.
On his first start, Kenedy was one of his team’s highlight’s from the game, and helped his team to take the upper hand inside ten minutes of the first period. He received the ball on the left flank and delivered a perfect cross for his compatriot Ramires to head home. Ramires then turned provider for Chelsea’s second goal scored by Frenchman Loïc Rémy before Walsall pulled one back through O’Connor. Kenedy collected the pass from Ruben Loftus-Cheek, shifted the ball to his weaker right-foot and his firm low shot from inside the area found the back of the net, making the score 3-1. Another summer signing Pedro, on as a substitute, hit the last nail on the coffin during stoppage-time.
