Manchester City have embarked on their best ever run of form in the Premier League with eleven straight victories – but for one of their big money signings it has been anything but straight-forward since his move last summer.
Fernando the £12 million recruit from Porto was in bullish mood as he vowed to make up for lost time.
The 28 year old made an impressive 25 league appearances for the Citizens last season as he and Fernandinho often rotated. However, the player nicknamed The Octopus by Porto supporters for his ability to stop multiple attacks last played for the first team in their final game of last campaign a 6-0 humbling of Queens Park Rangers.
Unfortunately a persistent groin injury finally caught up with the Brasilia born midfielder who has been sidelined ever since. He has been a reluctant onlooker and isn’t afraid to admit he has got a little restless at times;
“It has been hard because as a player you want to be on the pitch helping your team-mates,” he said. “But to be honest I needed the time off to recover properly.”
The former Porto man returned to Portugal during his rehabilitation and to aid his recovery. He hasn’t featured in the starting line up yet this season but did make a return to the bench during the Champions League defeat to Juventus on Tuesday.
The fire inside Fernando has finally been ignited and he wants to show why City fans what he’s all about.
