Marseille secured a vital three points on Sunday as they thrashed Bastia 4-1 at the Stade Vélodrome, a fixture which saw the début of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva.
The former Cruzeiro midfielder, who was bought by Real Madrid in January for a fee around €15 million, is currently on loan at Marseille. The hosts took a 16th-minute lead through Benjamin Mendy before a second-half brace from Romain Alessandrini and a strike from Belgium forward Michy Batshuayi. Brazilian striker Brandão scored Bastia’s consolation goal against his former club.
Lucas hopes his spell at Marseille will help to earn him his place at Real Madrid next season. He said: “I intend to have a good season in France, improve, play at the Olympic Games next year, then return to Real Madrid. Marseille are a big club. The most important thing is to be involved with a great team, and my objective is to get up to speed with European football.”
