The contract of 18-year-old Santos midfielder Thiago Maia runs out next February and the youngster is yet to accept the renewal offer put forward by the club.
Santos coach Dorival confirmed that the club are trying to tie down the player to a new contract, but admits they’ve failed in their attempt to do so. Thiago Maia, despite his age, has been starting games for the club, and Dorival, who sees a bright future ahead for the young midfielder, requested the player’s agent to get him to sign the renewal. Dorival said during the ‘Bem, Amigos’ TV show: “There’s this kid who’s starting, Thiago Maia, and I plea to his manager to sign the contract with Santos. There’s this possibility of this boy growing, he’s a promising boy who surely will have a very big growth to go on and become a top player in Brazilian football. But he needs a longer period, he needs stability, and he will achieve the result only if there’s regularity. I know that the board of Santos is trying for a renewal. So far, failed.”
According to Globo Esporte, Thiago Maia’s current contract is until February 2016 and Santos have offered him a new 5-year deal with a significant salary increase.
