Kaká’s form has been extremely impressive in his first season in MLS with Orlando City, the club where he has become indispensable both to his teammates and fans. He was rewarded for this form by being named in the MLS All-Star team that will face Tottenham on 29 July, but it has now also been revealed that he has been awarded the honour of captaining the side. 

MLS fans were able to vote for the captain and selected the former of São Paulo player, who  was quick to show his pleasure.

“This is spectacular,” he said. “It is a great opportunity to be here. I grew up watching the All-Star Game in NFL and NBA and now I will have the chance to play one. It’s really amazing and now I am elected to be the captain of this team. I want to thank everyone who voted for me. ” 

Kaká beat off competition from American, Michael Bradley and Irish striker Robbie Keane to wear the captain’s armband.
