The Brazilian Women’s team maintained their 100% record at the Women’s World Cup with a deserved 1-0 win against Costa Rica.

The Seleção were already assured a place in round two so head coach Vadão rested a number of key players including Marta. This didn’t seem to affect the team at all as Brazil dominated against a battling Costa Rica.

Despite having all of the ball Brazil didn’t open the scoring until the 83rd minute when midfielder Raquel Fernandes struck. The clean sheet meant that Vadão’s team have yet to concede a goal in the tournament.

Brazil now go on to play Australia in the last 16 on Sunday. In the other group E clash yesterday South Korea beat Spain 2-1 to move into the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time in their history.
