Shakhtar midfielder Fred admits he didn’t expect to be joining the squad in Chile next month but will use the opportunity to learn as much as possible.
The 22-year-old is desperate to make the most of an unexpected opportunity after being added to the Selecao’s Copa América squad. The Shakhtar Donetsk man was originally named on Dunga’s standby list for the tournament, but was promoted to the 23 on Wednesday following news Luiz Gustavo was forced to withdraw from the squad with a knee injury. He said: “I have always worked towards this opportunity, but it came as a surprise. Unfortunately it is because of the injury to a team-mate, but for me it is very good news. Fernandinho came and gave me a hug when I was told. I am very happy.”
