Another weekend full of Brazilian football action is on the books. The fourth matchday of the 2024 Brasileirão season concluded on Monday (29th), with a goalless draw between Palmeiras and São Paulo in the state derby known as “Choque-Rei”.

The matchday opened with Criciúma thrashing Vasco da Gama, who announced coach Ramón Díaz’s departure shortly after the final whistle. Meanwhile, Atlético Mineiro deepened Cuiabá’s crisis with a comfortable away win, while Grêmio lost to Bahia in a hard-fought game in Salvador.

Sunday began with Botafogo taking down Rio de Janeiro rivals Flamengo at the iconic Maracanã. Later, Cruzeiro defeated Vitória in Belo Horizonte, with Corinthians making all the headlines by pulling off a shocking 3-0 win over Fluminense at the Neo Química Arena.

At the Castelão, Fortaleza and Red Bull Bragantino shared the points, while Juventude and Athletico Paranaense also finished level in Caxias do Sul. In the final game of the day, Internacional drew with Atlético Goianiense in front of a disgruntled crowd at Beira-Rio.

With these results, Botafogo lead the table after four games, reminding fans of their great start to the 2023 season, when they led for much of the campaign before collapsing in the final stretch. However, let’s keep in mind that some teams still have a few games in hand.
