Former Brazilian footballer Leonardo Araújo is set to sue the French Football Federation following his lengthy ban last year.

Leonardo was director of football at Paris Saint-Germain when he was banned for 9 months after appearing to shoulder barge referee Alexandre Castro in May 2013. The ban was then extended for 14 months until June 2014 following a failed appeal.

The Brazilian then won a later appeal to have the ban aned but has stated that his image and reputation has been ruined. He has yet to find work since leaving PSG and is seeking €8,514,952 from the FFF.

The legal director of FFF, Jean Lapeyre, wants to settle the matter outside of court.
“If one considers that the amount is reasonable, we can settle things amicably. If this is not the case, it will be up to the courts to say what would be a reasonable amount.”
