Palmeiras can breath a sigh of relief after they escaped relegation following a tense final day in the Brasileirão.

The team from São Paulo could only draw 1-1 with Atlético Paranaense but this was enough after Vitoria and Bahia both lost.

Vitoria knew they would stay up if they bettered the result of Palmeiras but lost 1-0 om an extremely tight game with Santos. Thiago Ribeiro was the man who broke Vitoria’s hearts with a goal in the last minute.

Bahia were the least likely to stay up at the start of the day but gave themselves a great start by going 2-0 up early on away at Coritiba. The Salvador based side would have stayed up if the scoreline had stayed the same but they crumbled and slipped to an eventual 3-2 defeat.
