Corinthians forward Romarinho is close to leaving the club, according to reports in Estado de São Paulo.

The forward trained as normal with the rest of the squad but is unlikely to travel with the party for their Campeonato Brasileiro match away to Criciúma this Sunday. Corinthians currently sit fourth in the table, with 32 points from 18 matches.

Negotiations for his transfer are currently ongoing between the 2012 FIFA World Club Cup winners and Qatari outfit El Jaish.

There is a possibility that the deal will be finalised by tonight, with the player leaving either today or tomorrow.

Yesterday, Romarinho posted a photograph on social media platform Twitter and wrote a message which would lead the club’s fans to believe the player is close to leaving the club.

“Forever in my heart,” he wrote, alongside a picture of his goal in the Bombonera against Boca Juniors, in the first leg of the 2012 Copa Libertadores final, which the Brazilian club went on to win following a 2-0 win at the Pacaembu.

His strike in that first game was decisive in Corinthians lifting the continental title, before claiming world glory that December against Champions League winners Chelsea in Tokyo, Japan.

Romarinho’s transfer price is a high one. El Jaish are expected to pay around 7.5 million euros for the player, more than R$20 million.

Corinthians will receive 40% of the fee, that being the portion of the player’s economic rights that they own.
