Roberto Carlos is adamant that even with Neymar in its ranks Brazil would still have lost heavily to Germany in the World Cup.

The 41-year-old, who finished his playing career at Anzi in Russia and with 125 caps for Brazil under his belt, spoke exclusively to ESPN Brasil. For Roberto Carlos, Neymar’s absence was not the cause of Brazil’s humiliation.

“It would not have been seven goals, it would have been five goals,” said Roberto Carlos.

Neymar got injured in the quarter-finals after a rash challenge by Colombia’s Zuniga.

“Brazil was not in a good day. It didn’t go. Some thought that the midfield needed to be closed; other believed that with Bernard Brazil would be more offensive and it was not good.

“Football doesn’t have an explanation.”
