São Paulo idol Rogério Ceni, who has represented the club for over 20 years, will have a special commemorative shirt launched in his honour prior to his final game for the Morumbi outfit.
The former Brazil goalkeeper – who won a World Cup with the Seleção in 2002 – will hang up his gloves after the last game of the 2014 Campeonato Brasileiro season, when São Paulo host Sport Recife on December 7.
The 41-year-old has played 1,160 official matches for the club, and in 2011 became the first ever goalkeeper to score 100 career goals.
And it was revealed today, by Brazilian sports daily Lance, that a unique celebratory jersey is in production in anticipation of his last professional outing, by sports clothing manufacturers Tricolor and Penalty.
“What Ceni meant, means and will mean is something that will last forever. This product will be completely different to a regular jersey. It will be a form of recognition,” said Rafael Gouveia, director of marketing and sales for the Cambuci Group, who manage Penalty.
The project has already been presented to both São Paulo and Ceni himself, who gave Penalty the green light to go ahead and create the one-off shirt.
It is expected to be launched in either November or December, prior to the club’s final Brasileirão encounter with Sport.
