The host nation’s governing body has lodged an appeal with Fifa in an attempt to have Thiago Silva’s yellow card in the game against Colombia overturned.

Silva is due to miss his side’s World Cup semi-final match against Germany on Tuesday having picked up his second booking of the tournament in Friday’s game.

“I can confirm we have received an appeal from the CBF and this is being analysed,” said Fifa’s head of media, Delia Fischer, as quoted in The Guardian.

Whilst a decision to show a red card that is deemed incorrect may be overruled by the sport’s governing bodies, regulations do not permit yellow cards to be overturned in this manner.
