When Brazil forward Neymar appeared for training on Tuesday he showed off a device attached to his right leg.

Much confusion was made of the equipment on the Barcelona attackers leg but Brazil physiotherapist Luiz Rosan has explained exactly what the device is.

Lancenet quoted Rosan on the device that is apparently called a portable transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator.

Rosan said: “The device fits in the palm of the hand and runs on battery power for a few hours.

“I believe to be fundamental in a competition like the World Cup, which will be isolated for a long period and with the patient at our disposal, you need to have that kind of equipment at your disposable and durable batteries to help and contribute to the process of recovery from sports injuries”

The physiotherapist went on to add how the recovery process works, he added: “In the recovery process speed is essential.

“The two most commonly used treatments make use of cryotherapy and electrotherapy.

“The first procedure consists of techniques that work with low temperatures in local or general body regions. The second, in the use of electric currents within the therapeutic.”

Brazil and Rosan will hope the device can aid Neymar’s recovery to full fitness ahead of Friday’s quarter-final match against Colombia.
