1994 World Cup winner Rai, who spent much of his career in France with PSG, has told EPTV that he doesn’t believe current French international Franck Ribery to be the man to knit his team together during the World Cup.

Rai mentioned that he thinks the Bayern Munich playmaker, who was voted the third-best player in the world last year, possesses great individual qualities, but can’t adapt to what France need from him as an experienced international.

“Ribery is a guy who can decide what makes the difference in a solo run, rather than someone who organises and motivates the team.”

Despite Rai’s opinions on Ribery, the former Brazil midfielder suggested that a terrible recent World Cup record could work in the Gallic team’s favour: “I think they will be much more professional, much more closed, much more focussed.”

“France may turn their bad 2010 campaign into motivation; they can turn into a dangerous team.”
