Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho is training with his former club Corinthians to maintain fitness ahead of next month’s World Cup.

The 25 year-old left the Timão, where he won five major honours between 2010 and 2013, to move to Tottenham last July for £17 million.

Despite his exit, Paulinho has seemingly maintained a strong relationship with the Corinthians hierarchy and is pleased to return ahead of meeting up with Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on 26 May.

“It"s a great pleasure to train at Corinthians and even more so because I"m preparing for a World Cup," he said on Friday, as reported by xinhuanet.com. “I was fortunate to have one of the happiest times of my life at Corinthians and it"s going to be good for me [to be back]."

Paulinho has had a mixed first season in England. The São Paulo native was a regular under Head Coach Andrè Villas-Boas, but played less frequently once the Portuguese was replaced by Tim Sherwood. Despite this, Paulinho still made 30 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals.
