Hellas Verona Manager Andrea Mandorlini admits he is “very proud” of Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

The 22 year-old scored seven goals in 18 appearances for Verona earlier this season, before joining Napoli in January in a co-ownership agreement.

Jorginho has settled quickly in Naples, making 14 appearances in Serie A. His development has lead to talk of an international call up for either Brazil or Italy – he qualifies for both – and former mentor Mandorlini is proud to have played a part in his growth.

“I cared for him, as he did a lot for us and we did a lot for him,” said the tactician, as reported by Football Italia. He settled in well at Napoli, so we’re very proud and happy to see one of our ex-players impress at the highest level.

“I always considered Jorginho to be like a son to me. I remember the day of his debut. He was sad because of some criticism, but I told him to relax, that he’d be fine. We went through a lot together and now he has won his first trophy.”

Jorginho will be hoping to start against his former club when Verona visit the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday. The Gialloblu need three points to have a chance of securing a Europa League berth.
