Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo insists he is positive about his chances of being selected by Spain coach Vicente del Bosque for the upcoming World Cup, despite falling out of favour with club boss Manuel Pellegrini in the past couple of months.
After a blistering start to his career in England, the ex-Real Madrid youth player has stalled somewhat in 2014 following his big money move from Sevilla. However, the 28 year-old, who has ten international goals to his name, remains confident in his own abilities.
He told Soccerway: “It would be a dream to be involved in the World Cup- it would be great and is somehing I am fighting for.”
“Not playing here regularly means that the national manager has not seen much of me- but I won’t give up. Quite the contrary- I am full of optimism.”
In his debut season at City, Negredo has scored 23 goals in all competitions and is thought to be in competition with the likes of Fernando torres and David Villa for a place in Del Bosque’s final 23.
