Atlético Mineiro drew 1-1 with Colombians Santa Fe on Thursday night and it was enough to secure their passage into the Copa Libertadores last-16.

The holders have always been in control of their group after winning their opening two matches and yesterday’s draw means they are through with nine points, although they aren’t assured of top spot yet.

They host second place Zamora next week and a defeat to the Venezuelans would see them go through as only runners up.

They progressed through though due to a first half goal from Guilherme, he played a wonderful 1-2 with former Manchester City striker Jô before drilling low into the bottom corner with just eight minutes gone.

The Colombians hit back in the second half though when Jefferson Cuero headed past Victor to level it up.

No more goals were forthcoming though from that point and it meant Ronaldinho and co continued their target of retaining their title.

As mentioned they’ll need a win or a draw from their last Group 4 match to qualify as winners of the group and then secure a more favourable knock-out opponent.
