Filipe Luis has echoed the sentiments of Atletico Madrid teammate Miranda by announcing that he still has a desire to make coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad this year.

The fact that his club are performing so well at the very top of the European game can no doubt be of benefit to Luis’ cause and he told fifa.com: “If I said I was happy about not being called up, I’d be lying.”

“I’m pretty sure Felipao (Scolari) has more or less got the squad picked in his mind, but I’m going to keep on fighting till the end to make that list. Obviously I’m still available and I’m itching to hear some good news.”

Luis faces healthy competition for a left-back role in Brazil’s final squad of 23, with the likes of Real Madrid’s Marcelo and even Barcelona’s Dani Alves seen as contenders to fill the position with aplomb.

Atletico’s Luis has won four Brazil caps to date, making his debut in 2009.
