Barcelona progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League yesterday as they recorded a 4-1 aggregate victory of Premier League side Manchester City and Dani Alves lauded the team display.

The Catalan club had come in for criticism recently after losses in La Liga let slip their previous stranglehold on the title.

In the Champions League however they were largely back to their best and Alves scored the winner on the night late on to secure the 2-1 victory.

The Brazilian told the club’s official website after the game his happiness at the result, Goal.com quoted Alves: “We’re very happy to go on to the next round.

“When things aren’t going well, it’s normal for there to be criticism. Besides the goal I’m happy with how the team played, we always respond.

“There is only one path to follow. We had a slip, but we’re moving forward. If we’re all together, we’re stronger. We are Barca and we have to defend this shirt to the death.”

Alves and his team mates will hope this victory can boost their season. Neymar also played yesterday at the Camp Nou but failed to have as significant game as his countryman Alves did.
