The World Cup’s injury list may have increased following the most recent round of friendlies with both England’s Jack Wilshire and Mexico’s Javier Hernandez now doubts for the tournament which begins in June.
Wilshere suffered a fractured foot following a strong challenge by Denmark’s Daniel Agger in Wednesday’s 1-0 win and the 22-year-old has subsequently been ruled out for eight weeks.
"To go to a World Cup for a player is immense and I will do absolutely everything so that he can get there," said the player’s club manager Arsene Wenger.
"A fracture is a fracture, it is not muscular or a ligament. Once it is healed, you do not have to have any restriction in your preparation," said the hopeful Arsenal boss.
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is also a doubt after suffering knee injury in Mexico"s draw with Nigeria.
The 25-year-old was forced off at the break after he collided with Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.
Speaking to Univision, Hernandez said: "I don"t feel good, the [Nigerian] goalkeeper fell on top of me, I"ll wait for the tests."
One positive came from Mexico’s national team doctor Jose Vázquez, who confirmed in an interview with ESPN Deportes that they have already ruled out ligament damage.
"We have to wait to see how it evolves and to run the relevant tests."
"It"s a blow, but we rule out the possibility of a knee ligament strain. There is only pain and there is no indication of instability in the knee," Vázquez said.
