In this exclusive interview with Sambafoot, the 21-year-old discusses his career up until now as well as his hopes for the future.

How do you feel at Liverpool?

I feel really good at Liverpool and have done since the day I arrived. I was made to feel really welcome and the whole group has really helped me to settle in.

How have you been able to win the affection of the Liverpool fans so quickly?

There’s no specific rule about how to do it. It has happened naturally. The Liverpool fans, like everyone at the club, demand a lot. All I have done is tried to work as hard as I possibly can ever since the day I arrived.

You’ve suffered a lot with injuries in recent months. How do you feel physically?

In truth I had quite a serious shoulder injury which ended up keeping me out for a long time. It was a difficult time but I fully recovered and now I’m in good physical shape.

At Inter you never really seemed to settle. Why? Is football in England better suited to your style of play?

It’s all about getting a run of games. Every player needs this. At Inter it didn’t happen. English football is quicker and more dynamic. This has helped me a little.

How important has Lucas Leiva been in helping you settle in at Liverpool?

He’s been fundamental. He helped me a lot and still does. He’s a great friend.

Is Luis Suarez the best player in the Premier League?

Suarez, like Lucas, has also been really helpful in helping me settle in. He’s made a real difference. I’ve already played with some great strikers but he’s something really special at the moment and is one of the biggest names in world football.

What is Liverpool’s aim this year?

Every club wants to win trophies and Liverpool is no different. We know that the competition is really tough but we have a chance and are going to give it everything we can.

You get a lot of assists but don’t score a lot. Are you working on this aspect of your game?

I have to develop in many aspects. I aim to do this every day and I know that little by little I’m improving.

Players like Oscar, Bernard and Lucas are your rivals for a place in the national side. Are you in touch with them?

They are all great players. I have most contact with Oscar because he plays in England. The competition for a place is great but I’m part of that competition.

Are you going to play in the World Cup this year?

It’s my great dream. I live in the hope of being called-up to help Brazil.
