Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has suggested that failure to win the upcoming World Cup on home soil could lead to him fleeing the country in order to escape the definitive backlash that would follow.

Felipao, who guided Brazil to glory in the same competition in Japan and South Korea in 2002, told reporters: “If I lose the World Cup, I’d be ready to go to Kuwait to seek political asylum.”

“We respect our opponents but we are ready to win the World Cup.”

Having successfully won the Confederations Cup in Brazil in 2013- and destroying current world champions Spain in the process- expectation levels are extremely high in the South American country and nothing short of a sixth title will do for the fanatical locals.
