Despite Mexican striker Carlos Vela opting not to participate in the upcoming World Cup, and thus apparently strengthening Brazil’s chances against them in Group A, one of his former international teammates has chosen to put a positive spin on events.

Tigres striker Lucas Lobo, who will be one of the chief beneficiaries from Vela’s self-imposed absence, told hereisthecity.com “The negativity and rejection of carlos Vela is better for us and for those who play in that position because now we have another chance.”

Real Sociedad’s Vela turned down further overtures from national boss Miguel Herrera earlier this week when the manager even flew to Spain to thrash out details of a comeback.

Mexico face hosts Brazil in Fortaleza on June 17.
