Atlético de Madrid defender João Miranda has revealed that he was approached by Spain assistant Toni Grande regarding the possibility of playing for La Furia Roja.

The 29 year-old, who has been capped nine times by Brazil, was quick to dismiss the enquiry and, in any case, does not qualify to represent Spain.

"They enquired in passing," he told ESPN Brazil. "They wanted information about my past, but I don’t have that possibility [playing for Spain]."

Miranda, who joined Atlético on a free transfer from São Paulo in January 2011, is considered to be one of the best defenders in La Liga. The Paranavaí-native has been ever-present this season, making 20 appearances.
