Clarence Seedorf will be the new coach of AC Milan after they relieved the duties of previous manager Massimiliano Allegri on Monday.
Seedorf’s playing future has been unknown since the 2013 calendar finished in December but he revealed his decision to retire and his future plans at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro today.
Sky Sports quoted the 37-year-old who admitted he would become coach of his former club.
“I am here to announce that I will retire from playing after 22 years.
“It has been a difficult decision, but I am satisfied with what I have achieved in my career.
“Here at Botafogo I am happy because I leave a team which has qualified for the Libertadores. I leave an improved club, especially in terms of their mentality and team spirit.
“Yes, I will be the coach at Milan.”
The Dutch midfielder spent ten years at AC Milan between 2002 and 2012 and enjoyed a great deal of success with the Rossoneri.
Seedorf revealed when he picked up the phone from Milan president Silvio Berlusconi there was only one answer he could give.
“Considering my relationship with the president when he called me yesterday I couldn’t say no after my 10 years spent there. My aim is to dream again.”
