Captain of the Brazil national team Thiago Silva has described the upcoming friendly between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid as a “punishment”.

PSG and the Spanish club are due to play each other on January 2nd at Qatar, the birthplace of the French club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Silva and his team mates will only enjoy a ten-day break as Ligue 1 ends on December 22nd for the winter period but the defender also tried to look at the friendly in a positive manner.

“I think playing around Christmas and New Year is a punishment, for many it is a sacred period. It would be nice if it stopped this time.

“On the other hand, a break could have caused PSG, who found a legal way to play, to not come back as good as before and the championship could change.”

It will be the second friendly meeting between Madrid and PSG as they also played each other in July. The Spanish side won that match 1-0 with France international Karim Benzema finding the net.

Thiago Silva and fellow Brazilian’s Marquinhos, Alex, Maxwell and Lucas will hope to defeat Madrid to set themselves up for a strong end of season and lead them to another French league title.
