Former Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo claims he tried to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

The 44 year-old, who left the club in August, admits neither the player nor Real Madrid were keen on finding an agreement.

“We thought about signing Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said to Telefoot, as reported by Football Espana.

“We did everything we could to convince him to leave Madrid and to play for PS-G, but he refused and it was impossible because of Real Madrid.

“He said that PS-G had a great team, but that he preferred to stay at Madrid.”

Leonardo has been unemployed since resigning at PS-G. He has recently been linked with director roles at both Internazionale and Milan. The Brazilian managed both sides in the past and played for the latter across two spells.
